The Journey - July 25th, 2023

A newsletter around learnings, experiences, creations and discoveries.

Hi all,

And welcome to another edition of The Journey - where I shared anything that caught my attention in the outside and inside journeys that we are going through! Enjoy 😋

Loved reading on the “Happiness Trap”:

“What is happiness? It’s the moment before you need more happiness.”

About escaping the when-then trap - an amazing read:

Highlight from my Travels: Mitzpe Ramon

Never heard of this town? Me neither, until I flew to Israel to work with a major developer on a brand-new coliving development.

Mitzpe Ramon, located 2h away from Tel Aviv, is in the middle of the desert. You might think that it’s inhabited, but just the opposite is true: a real community of nomads, remote workers and locals turned this place into what I call the “Tulum of Israel”.

It’s a truly astonishing place, where one can connect with the stars of the desert as much as with the sparkles within themselves. Welcome to Mars, as I thought when first seeing this.

Reflection of the Week:

The quality of your life depends on:

1/ How PRESENT you are with what you do

2/ How INTENTIONAL what you're doing is

3/ And how ALIGNED your intentions are with your highest self.

Work on these three areas, and the rest will fall in place. Would you agree? Add anything to it? Let me know…

My favorite Coliving LinkedIn post:

Love this post by Kyle Gaarder explaining the different forms of shared living:

You can also consult Jon Hormaetxe Castells’ post that created a similar framework:

For more frameworks, check out the coliving differentiation framework created in the Art of Coliving Book in Chapter 1 on different coliving models.

How to connect with other people? My key learnings from 30 years being alive.

1/ Try to understand the person. 2/ Give them value. Including: connections, advise/input, personal stories. 3/ If you can't add value, acknowledge what they said/label it. "You seem to be on a beautiful journey and it seems very important to you. I wish you more than luck."

You need to be able to share about yourself. Advise is fine but ask whether they want it. Hear them out. Then answer vulnerably. Then they will truly open up.

Great questions/prompts to ask:

  • What is driving you right now in life?
  • Share something with me about yourself. Whatever you want!
  • What occupies your mind most of the time?

Generally ask "What" questions instead of "Why" as they give clearer answers.Ex: "What makes you want to quit your job?" instead of "Why do you want to quit it?" The "Why" part is usually clear ("I want more fulfillment") while the "What" question will give you more context.

Thoughts of the Week:

You don't - and in fact, can't - always to "grandiose things". Doing small things doesn't mean you settle for small stuff. It means that you respect them equally as much as the big ones.

Knowledge is abundant. Application is scarce (and always will be: it's limited by time multiplied by a factor of willingness).

Book I’m re-reading:

The 5AM Club - Own Your Morning, Elevate Your Life by Robin Sharma. An incredible book to prime yourself for peak performance. Here is one of my favorite extracts - I could read this every day:

Quote I’m pondering on:

"There are 3 things you can't escape from life: pain, uncertainty, and constant work."

- Phil Stutz, from the documentary “Stutz
